On Story
I’m interested in what inspires human behavior. What the characters need, hide, fear, and how that effects what they express. What they choose to express and what they are able to express, often depends on their circumstances. These details are how I bring the world of the story to life.
My work begins with character. I’m drawn to analyze their contradictions who they believe they are, who the world believes they are, and who they become when circumstances force something hidden into the light.
For me, storytelling is an act of empathy. A great story asks us to pay attention and recognize something of ourselves in another person.
My approach to directing begins with relationship, need and circumstance.
I support actors in connecting to the film’s world deeply enough that they are free to live in it.
